Smith & Wesson’s New CSX

The Smith & Wesson CSX is a solid, single action, hammer fired, aluum frame pistol. Smith & Wesson’s restraint in product design and configuration is to be applauded. Restraint that places features and performance essential for defense with this type of firearm, while omitting the superfluous. That’s correct; no light rail, no optical sight mount, no faintly glow in the dark night sights, no 50 round magazine, no grenade launcher. A Micro-Compact frame size, some folks have jumped to draw parallels between the S&W CSX and firearms like the CZ RAMI 2075 of 2004, or the 1991 Star Firestar. An analogy? Sure. Both the 2022 Chevy Spark and a 2022 Corvette Stingray are automobiles, but that is where the similarity ends. Others have called it a 1911 design because it is single action and is hammer fired. Absolutely, except for its appearance and every other part of the pistol. So […]

ME: ACTION NEEDED: LD 1068, Dangerous Amendment

Click here to urge the Joint Committee on the Judiciary to oppose both LD 1068 and the proposed amendment by Senator Carney. After I sent our Action Alert last Friday, I learned that Leftist Maine Senator Anne Carney is circulating an amendment to her No-Due-Process Gun Confiscation “Red Flag” bill, LD 1068 (SP 336). The Amendment, is nothing more than “tomfoolery” because it still creates a framework to confiscate someone’s guns if someone else feels “harassed”. Maine law, Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §4651 has a very broad definition of harassment. The amendment is a “nothing burger,” which also shreds due process for the purpose of anti-gun activism. To begin with, the underlying bill specifically encourages courts to confiscate guns in connection with harassment orders. But here’s the rub: These harassment orders can be “ex parte” middle-of-the-night proceedings in which a gun owners has no notice, no hearing, and no right […]

GOA Shoots Back at Reporters Tying 2A Activism to Nazism

“It’s not radical, but rather perfectly normal, to want to be armed for protection from the common thug as well as a tyrannical government,” said Erich Pratt, senior vice president of Gun Owners of America. Gun rights organizations are taking aim at anti-gun propaganda after USA Today ran a story alleging that “Second Amendment activism can be a gateway to extremist ideologies” like the neo-Nazi movement. The paper, one of the most widely circulated in the nation, closed out 2021 with a story by Will Carless, titled “Down the barrel of a gun: How Second Amendment activism can be a gateway to extremist ideologies.” Carless claims that supporting the unalienable right to keep and bear arms creates a slippery slope to violent or fascistic beliefs. His proof is underwhelg or deceptive. For instance, Carless recounts attending a gun show at the Atlanta Expo Center in September where “a man proudly displayed Nazi memorabilia.” […]

Philadelphia ‘Ghost Gun’ Ban Blocked by State Court

Homemade firearm enthusiasts in the City of Brotherly Love were just handed a temporary victory. 3D Printed Gun A judge with the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas issued a preliary injunction against the city on Wednesday. The order halts enforcement of Philadelphia’s prohibition on making homemade firearms and the use of 3D printers to make guns and gun parts until the full case can be heard. The ruling deals a blow to the city’s attempt to regulate “ghost guns” its latest move in a push to pass local gun restrictions. The state of Pennsylvania has a firearm preemption statute that prohibits local governments from unilaterally enacting gun control. Philadelphia has had multiple local gun measures rejected in state courts for violating the state law over the years. Despite that fact, it continues to search for ways to evade the law. Gun Owners of America (GOA) sued the city in Pennsylvania state court last May, challenging […]

Guns of 1883: the Yellowstone Prequel

“1883,” a spin-off to Paramount’s hit series, “Yellowstone,” is a sprawling Western that serves as an origin story for the Dutton family and charts their epic journey across the Great Plains. The ambitious prequel is shot like a film, with detailed sets and sweeping landscapes that capture the vast scope of the American frontier. And like any great Western, “1883” features an abundance of Old West firearms. A familiar face packing a classic wheel gun. Sam Elliott stars as the gruff Captain Shea. Some have compared Yellowstone’s John Dutton to Granville Stuart, the 19-century ranching icon and the real-life “Father of Montana.” While the inspiration is clearly evident, the Dutton family patriarch staring in “1883,” James Dutton, has a story with even more parallels to the historic ranchers who tamed Montana Territory. Yellowstone Prequel The concept of “1883” started as a “Yellowstone” flashback during the season 4 premiere. James Dutton […]

IN: Constitutional Carry is on the move in Indiana!

); This week, the State House Committee passed HB 1077, a bill to make Indiana a Constitutional Carry state.  Under House Bill 1077, sponsored by Rep. Ben Smaltz (R) and Rep. Matt Lehman (R), a Hoosier will be able to carry virtually any place in the state, without having to beg the government for a permit. This is particularly important at a time when government closures across the nation are dragging out that process — thereby endangering the lives of applicants in threatening situations. Twenty-one other states currently recognize that Americans have the right to carry a gun for self-defense without first getting the government’s permission to exercise […]

ME: Oppose gun confiscation in Maine!

Click here to urge the Joint Committee on the Judiciary to oppose no due process gun confiscation. Due Process. It’s a simple concept, but not so simple that the “gun grabbers” are capable of understanding it. Proposed legislation, LD 1068, (SP 336) would explicitly add gun confiscation to the consequences of being the subject of a “harassment order.” It is thereby intended to encourage courts to strip the constitutional rights of people who are targeted by those orders. So what’s wrong with that? Well, the most serious problem is that those orders may be issued “ex parte” — without the ability of the target of the harassment order to present his or her side of the story. That’s it: A phone call to a judge in the middle of the night. And we can guarantee that the judge will ALWAYS grant the order (without the benefit of hearing both sides). […]

Columbus Arsenal Mystery: The 9 Pounder Cannon that Shouldn’t Exist

(This article originally appeared in issue 41 of The Artilleryman Magazine.) For most of us, our first encounter with the Civil War came in our earliest social studies classes. We later find, of course, that many of those precursory lessons were dramatic oversimplifications as simple and bright as childhood birthday ribbons. However, history is seldom simple and never singular. Far from a single, sleek ribbon, history is a complex tapestry of interwoven strands rich and vibrant, nuanced, and with patterns to be seen from afar. One oversimplification that bears such inspection is that of the oft-touted industrial might of the North. Such lessons focus primarily on railroads, telegraph lines, and small arms, but often neglect the subject of field artillery. Rebels Behind the 8-Ball Prior to the war, only two of the nation’s seven cannon foundries were located south of the Mason-Dixon line: little Bellona Foundry and the […]

NH: Tell Sen. Hassan to Save the Filibuster!

Click here to save the filibuster and save the Second Amendment. Remember California? It used to be a somewhat conservative state. It elected Ronald Reagan as Governor. Conservative Sam Hayakawa represented it in the U.S. Senate. I know; I worked for Hayakawa on his Senate agenda. Then two things happened: The first was the Simpson-Mazzaoli amnesty bill. Signed (foolishly) by President Ronald Reagan, it gave the vote to roughly 3,000,000 illegals. With the new more liberal electorate, California changed its voting rules. Now, Leftist activists combed urban centers for millions of fraudulent ballots sent by the state to Democrats who were otherwise too lazy or uninformed to vote. The result? California is now virulently anti-gun, and is unlikely to turn around any time soon. New Hampshire’s far-Leftist U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan is now trying to implement California’s loony game plan with the country at large — and to strip Granite […]

GOA Secures Victory in Philadelphia Homemade Firearm Case

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Yesterday, the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County issued a preliary injunction against the City of Philadelphia, halting the City’s enforcement of its recently enacted ordinances banning the making of homemade firearms and the use of 3D printers to make guns and gun parts. Gun Owners of America (GOA) sued the City in Pennsylvania state court last May, challenging the ordinances. Yesterday’s injunction prohibits Philadelphia from enforcing several illegal and unconstitutional firearm restrictions, including a ban on individuals making homemade firearms, restrictions on selling or transferring “firearm finishing devices” and “unfinished frames and receivers,” and even a prohibition on the use of a 3D printer to create a firearm or “firearm attachment.” GOA’s Senior Vice President, Erich Pratt, had this to say: “Fortunately, the state of Pennsylvania has a strong preemption law that explicitly protects the right to keep and bear arms, and prohibits localities like […]

AL: Let’s Make 2022 the Year for Constitutional Carry in Alabama

It’s Time for Alabama to Join the Constitutional Carry Club Dear friend, Last year, gun owners rejoiced as five new states joined the Constitutional Carry Club, removing the burdensome license requirement to carry a handgun for personal protection. Regrettably, Alabama was not one of those states. But Gun Owners of America is committed to restoring the rights of Alabamians to defend themselves without government bureaucracy. So please take action now to jump start Constitutional Carry! Some Alabama Sheriffs Are Ignorant on Constitutional Carry Sadly, some of the biggest opponents to Constitutional Carry are local law enforcement officials. These sheriffs are out of touch with the Constitution. In many parts of the country, law enforcement agencies and organizations support the dismantling of permitting schemes. Consider the Maine State Police which agreed with — and even testified in support of — Constitutional Carry in the Pine Tree State. In North Carolina, the […]

S&W CSX: An Improved Micro 1911

New Smith and Wesson CSX Makes The Micro 1911 Much Better Loose lips sink ships…and sell a whole lot of guns. In case you’re ing this later, Smith and Wesson didn’t actually say anything, but the new S&W CSX pistol was leaked by several YouTube channels. That was probably intentional, and they would not be the first gun company to have someone “leak” a new gun right before SHOT Show. Glock and Ruger both did it in 2015. STI did it in 2016. FN did it in 2019. S&W is just the people doing it this year. With that said, though…they’ve at least leaked something interesting. The CSX is a new spin on the micro 1911, which might make the format a little more relevant. Here’s what you need to know… S&W CSX: Double-Stack, Single Action The micro 1911 is nothing new; Colt originated the concept with the Mustang back […]

MT: Urge Senator Tester to Fight for 2A Rights!

); Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Schumer are hard at work, pushing for an exception to the filibuster. We need you to contact Senator Jon Tester NOW and tell him he must not weaken the filibuster in any way. Tester has indicated that he believes the filibuster could be bypassed “at a certain point.” Case in point: Just last month, Tester voted for a so-called “one time exception” to the filibuster. Biden and Schumer didn’t wait long before calling for another “one time exception” to the filibuster. This isn’t an idle threat: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has promised a vote to change the Senate rules by January 17 in order […]

); Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Schumer are hard at work, pushing for an exception to the filibuster. We need you to contact Senator Krysten Sinema NOW and tell him he must not weaken the filibuster in any way. Sinema sometimes claims to support the filibuster. But only last month, Sinema voted for a so-called “one time exception” to the filibuster. Biden and Schumer didn’t wait long before calling for another “one time exception” to the filibuster. This isn’t an idle threat: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has promised a vote to change the Senate rules by January 17 in order to pass his radical, tyrannical agenda. […]

KY: Urge Senator McConnell to Fight for 2A Rights!

); Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Schumer are hard at work, pushing for an exception to the filibuster. We need you to contact Senator Mitch McConnell NOW and tell him he must not weaken the filibuster in any way. McConnell often claims to support the filibuster. But only last month, McConnell set up and voted for a so-called “one time exception” to the filibuster. Biden and Schumer didn’t wait long before calling for another “one time exception” to the filibuster. This isn’t an idle threat: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has promised a vote to change the Senate rules by January 17 in order to pass […]

WV: Urge Senator Manchin to Fight for 2A Rights!

); Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Schumer are hard at work, pushing Senator Joe Manchin to break his campaign promise and deliver a terrifying assault to your liberty. We need you to contact him NOW and tell him he must not weaken the filibuster in any way. In November 2020, Manchin promised he would never vote to end the filibuster. But only last month, Manchin voted for a so-called “one time exception” to the filibuster. Biden and Schumer didn’t wait long before calling for another “one time exception” to the filibuster. This isn’t an idle threat: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has promised a vote to […]

Walther PDP Compact vs Canik TP9 SF Elite: Save Up or Settle?

For those who are looking for a new handgun, be it your first gun or your thirty first, but are looking for something other than a Glock or M&P, you have only to look as far as your local gun counter to see some other names entering the conversation. Should you go for a name with all the bells and whistles by getting a Walther PDP Compact? Or how about that interesting new gun with the little red trigger safety called the Canik TP9 SF Elite? You see the price tag and think “Hey, I could get that one and have some money left over for practice ammo.” The Walther PDP is a relative newcomer to the market, but it possesses the Walther name which gives it a pedigree that, let’s be honest, owes a great deal to a certain British Agent with a flair for Aston Martins. Regardless of […]

American Gun: Diversity of Owner, Commonality of Culture

American Gun: Diversity of Owner, Commonality of Culture Home American Gun: Diversity of Owner, Commonality of Culture December 30, 2021 As 2021 draws to a close, we’re taking a look back at the American Gun video series that we started in July. Each month we’ve added a new video, each featuring an American gun owner. We spoke with individuals from all walks of life with a wide array of reasons for firearm ownership. Each of them is different to a varying degree, as are the firearms they own and sometimes carry. But there are many commonalities as well. The SilencerCo American Gun series illustrates and celebrates the commonality and that great diversity. It’s an intimate look at the foundation of American Freedom and those who support the Second Amendment—with a focus on the right to bear arms and a view of the vast range of people who choose to do […]
