VA: CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY BILL INTRODUCED IN VIRGINIA

); The 2023 Virginia legislative session has begun and to mark the occasion Virginia Delegate Marie March, House District 7, has introduced Constitutional Carry HB 1393, a bill authorizing the carrying of concealed handguns without a permit within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Specifically, Delegate March’s bill would allow anyone, both resident and non-resident, to carry a concealed handgun without a permit, so long as that person: · is carrying in a location where they may lawfully open carry a handgun; and · is qualified to obtain a concealed handgun permit. Though not a perfect bill, passing HB 1393 would restore, in certain instances, the constitutionally-protected right of individuals […]

GOA’s Commitment to the Commonwealth and Other States Deepens Suk Smith I am delighted to announce Suk Smith as the new Pennsylvania Director for Gun Owners of America effective January 9, 2023. Most recently, Suk served as the 2nd Amendment Director and Regional Field Director for Dave McCormick’s U.S. Senate campaign. Previously, Suk was the Director of Coalitions and Second Amendment/Sportsmen for the Trump Victory 2020. Suk’s experience doesn’t end with her extensive background in politics. Suk is a firearms instructor holding certifications from USCCA in Conceal Carry/Home Defense, Women’s Handgun and Self Defense. So, why the change? As of January 8th, I have assumed the role of National Director for State and Local Affairs at Gun Owners of America. GOA and GOF Encouraged by SCOTUS Commentary in Denial of Request for Stay

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 11, 2023 Washington, D.C. Today, in Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation’s (GOF) challenge to New York’s misleadingly named Concealed Carry Improvement Act, the Supreme Court of the United States denied blocking the 2nd Circuit’s stay of an injunction against the law. However, two of the Justices made clear that this was not the last time they would potentially be involved in the case. Justice Alito, with Justice Thomas in agreement, wrote: “I understand the Court’s denial today to reflect respect for the Second Circuit’s procedures in managing its own docket, rather than expressing any view on the merits of the case. Applicants should not be deterred by today’s order from again seeking relief if the Second Circuit does not, within a reasonable time, provide an explanation for its stay order or expedite consideration of the appeal.” Erich Pratt, GOA’s Senior Vice President, issued the following […]

GOA Favors Subcommittee Investigating the Weaponization of the Federal Government

Gun Owners of America supports the establishment of a “Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government as a select investigative subcommittee of the Committee on the Judiciary” through H. Res 12. GOA will be scoring in favor of H. Res 12. According to H. Res 12, Section 1(b)(1)(B), investigations will include the relationship between big tech companies such as Meta, YouTube, and Twitter — and the government to censor Americans. In recent years, Gun Owners of America has been censored for: Demonstrating during the 2020 presidential election that then-Vice-Presidential candidate Kamala Harris is opposed to handgun ownership based on her Amicus Curiae to the Supreme Court in opposition to the right to keep a handgun in the home in D.C. v. Heller Raising awareness about an illegal national gun registry maintained by the ATF in violation of a federal law, as documented in a 40-page report and as admitted […]

IL: State Senate Voting SOON to Ban Commonly Owned Firearms

); As we mentioned previously, anti-gun democrats in the State Legislature have been trying to pass an insane anti-gun bill. HB 5855 passed out of the State House on Friday. The Senate will very likely vote on it TODAY, with tomorrow being the deadline. House Bill 5855 seeks to ban many commonly owned firearms from manufacture or sale, and require all current owners of these guns to register them within the state. Not only does this tyrannical proposition infringe on the rights of all Illinois citizens, but it is also extremely dangerous. These commonly owned semi-automatic firearms are used countless times every year to save lives and deter […]

Why Should I Buy a Silencer?

Why Should I Buy a Silencer? Home January 9, 2023 David Higginbotham Awareness about the multiple benefits of suppressors is growing. If you’re like many other shooters, you may be asking yourself, “Why should I buy a silencer?” If you’re looking for some concrete reasons to justify pulling the trigger on a silencer purchase, look no further. Here are 10 solid reasons to get the Form 4 process started. 1. Protect Your Hearing This is the first, most obvious reason why it’s smart to buy a silencer is to protect your hearing. Repeated exposure to the high sound signature of gunshots can lead to permanent hearing lost. Nobody wants to live with impaired hearing for the rest of their lives, so it absolutely makes sense to be proactive in hearing protection. Suppressors have the ability to make ammunition hearing safe. While it is important to note for the uninitiated that […]

Gun Owners Of America Labels 18 Republican Senators “Turncoats”

Gun Owners of America (GOA), the Virginia-based Second Amendment rights advocacy group, issued a scathing rebuke of the 18 Republican senators who voted for the 2023 Omnibus Appropriations Act. The Republicans who voted for the bill are Sen. Roy Blount, Missouri; Sen. John Boozman, Arkansas; Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, West Virginia; Sen. Susan Collins, Maine; Sen. John Cornyn, Texas; Sen. Tom Cotton, Arkansas; Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina; Sen. Jim Inhofe, Oklahoma; Sen. Mitch McConnell, Kentucky; Sen. Jerry Moran, Kansas; Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Alaska; Sen. Rob Portman, Ohio; Sen. Mitt Romney, Utah; Sen. Mike Rounds, South Dakota; Sen, Richard Shelby, Alabama; Sen. John Thune, South Dakota; Sen. Roger Wicker, Mississippi; and Sen. Todd Young, Indiana. All 18 listed expressed support for the Second Amendment on their websites. All but Senators John Thune and Mike Rounds mentioned their Omnibus votes. The vast majority said military spending, national security issues, and funding were part of […]

GOA Applauds 5th Circuit Bump Stock Ruling

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 8, 2022 Washington, D.C. Late Friday, in a near identical case to Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation’s (GOF) challenge to the Trump-era bump stock ban, the full U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Attorney General Merrick Garland and blocked this illegal regulation. While the Supreme Court declined to hear GOA’s case earlier this year, the ruling today by the Fifth Circuit creates a circuit split, thereby greatly increasing the chance the high court will hear the case challenging the rule. Erich Pratt, GOA’s Senior Vice President, issued the following statement: This is very exciting news, and we congratulate Michael Cargill on this victory. We look forward to again appealing our own ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court and potentially teag up with Mr. Cargill as we look to defend the rights of all Americans to own all semiautomatic firearms.” GOA spokesmen are available […]

REPORT: The First Gun Bill in the New House Majority…

); Gun Owners of America has learned that the FIRST gun bill that House Republicans will introduce is… NOT a pro-gun bill. The bill would expand the FBI’s power to punish Americans who attempt to legally purchase a firearm from a commercial gun dealer by reporting them to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This is why gun owners can’t blindly trust Congress to fight for our 2A rights. We just ended Pelosi’s majority, but the new majority wants to use your gun rights as a bargaining chip in the border crisis. That’s why we need the new House majority to hear what PRO-gun items they MUST prioritize instead. Please […]

The Illegal Alien NICS Alert Act

Broken FBI Background Check System Disproportionately Effects Minorities Why does the FBI’s background check system falsely deny law-abiding citizens from purchasing a firearm the overwhelg majority of the time? Because the system is broken and often mismatches law-abiding citizens with the records of convicted felons who share things like names and birthdays. This disproportionately affects orities, such as Blacks and Hispanics, who are statistically more likely to share names and therefore are more likely to get a false positive.i According to published FBI data, NICS has denied 44,223 prospective gun purchasers between November 30, 1998 and December 31, 2022 for being “Illegal/Unlawful Alien[s]” under 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(5).ii While a proponent of the bill may say these are prohibited persons who were stopped from illegally purchasing a firearm, in reality these are “initial denials”—over 90% of which are false positives.iii This means that 9 out of 10 times these denials were […]

GOA: Constitutional carry would be the final nail in Jim Crow’s coffin

Florida’s current concealed carry scheme has racially motivated roots. Thankfully, Gov. Ron DeSantis and incog House Speaker Paul Renner have pledged to abolish this Jim Crow era relic by passing “constitutional carry” in the upcog 2023 legislative session. The typical opposing arguments have again emerged: hoping to keep guns out of the hands of crials and undesirables; believing that restricting guns and regulating them via permitting systems reduces crime. What is interesting, and even ironic due to the public’s lack of historical context, is that the reasons to restrict citizens from carrying arms in public today mirror the same racially motivated talking points made nearly 150 years ago when gun control was first codified in our state. Florida’s gun control can be traced to the 1880s, when Confederate sympathizers regained control of the Legislature after Reconstruction. The first thing they did was amend the state constitution to regulate the carrying […]

Guns of 1923: A Yellowstone Prequel

As both a prequel to Paramount’s hit ‘Yellowstone’ series and a sequel to the franchise origin story, 1883, the anticipation for 1923 has been high to say the least. 1923 explores the next two generations of the Dutton family tree and the perils they face in the early 20th century, including war, lawlessness, economic depression, and the encroachment of the modern world on their traditional way of life. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren portray Jacob and Cara Dutton, the power couple of the 1923 series who defend their land with guns blazing. With land disputes and cattle theft an ever-loog threat, being well-armed was essential to the ranchers who tamed the remote valleys of western Montana. The historic accuracy of the series varies, but most of the guns of 1923 are real firearm models that are highly collectible today. Nicknamed for the Gatling Gun: Arthur L. “Gat” Howard

Arthur L. “Gat” Howard earned his reputation and nickname from behind a Gatling gun. As slang for a gun, “gat” took hold in the early 20th century, but is clearly a play on Gatling gun, designed in 1862 and named after its inventor Richard J. Gatling. Born in 1846, Howard served with the U.S. Cavalry for five years and fought in the Indian Wars on the western plains before going to work for Winchester Arms. Eventually he left Winchester and started his own cartridge manufacturing company and enjoyed some success before the factory burned down. Howard served in the Connecticut National Guard where he led the Gatling gun platoon, but it was in service of the Canadian government where Howard earned his nickname. A Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 single action revolver with pearl grips attributed to Howard is on offer in Rock Island Auction’s Feb. 14-17 Sporting […]

NE: Pass Permitless Carry in Nebraska

Send a message to your State Senator urging them to co-sponsor Senator Tom Brewer’s Permitless Carry Bill I have some very good news. Nebraska State Senator Tom Brewer, District 43, is re-introducing his Permitless Carry bill in the next couple of days and it looks like it has a good chance of passing this session after failing on a key vote in 2022. Importantly, Nebraska has a stronger pro-gun legislative majority after the mid-term elections. But even with that, gun owners still need to be engaged to ensure that we get Permitless Carry passed in 2023. Senator Brewer’s bill, while not perfect, does two very important things: It removes the requirement to seek government permission before exercising your constitutionally-protected right to carry a concealed handgun in Nebraska (permitless carry). It will end local gun registration in Omaha and Lincoln by strengthening Nebraska’s firearms preemption law. In short, Senator Brewer’s Permitless […]

Strangely Suppressed: Oddball Guns and their SilencerCo Cans

Strangely Suppressed: Oddball Guns and their SilencerCo Cans Home January 4, 2023 Travis Pike You can suppress nearly everything that fires a bullet. Some guns work better suppressed than others, and sometimes the oddballs work best suppressed. Today we are going to look at five weirdos that work exceptionally well when suppressed. They are far from normal and not for everyone, but man, do they shut up when you put a suppressor on them. Here are my favorite strangely suppressed firearms, and a suppressor to pair with them. Trailblazer LifeCard Yes, this strange, foldable little .22LR derringer can be suppressed. (Photo by Travis Pike for TTAG) The Trailblazer LifeCard is a micro, single shot, folding .22LR derringer. This little fell folds into something that’s about the same length and width as a credit card. It’s a good deal thicker but still easy to fold up and toss in your pocket. […]

Backing the Blue by Building Better: Rapid Force Duty Holsters (2023)

Introduction Over the last few years, the scrutiny and ignorance law enforcement officers have endured are hard to put into words. A once heroic career path is now painted by the mainstream media as villainous. If there were ever a question on what our stance at Alien Gear is on this matter, we hope our answer is made clear in the dedication, collaboration, and innovation of the Rapid Force Duty Holster. But to be very clear, we “Back the Blue.” The Rapid Force line isn’t just made for police and military officers but is crafted on their experience and feedback. We don’t believe the men and women who choose to protect and serve are simply “doing their job.” We believe that they have taken an oath of leadership and sacrifice for the well-being of our communities. We appreciate the time taken from their families and friends for our own. This […]
