Call the House Judiciary Committee Members to Report HB 197 from Committee

The Montana Board of Regents is using partisan courts to block campus carry!

In order to restore our God-given right to “keep and bear arms” on university property we must pass House Bill 197!

HB 197 is a constitutional referendum that maintains that “the board may not exercise any power that conflicts with any other provision of this constitution or that conflicts with a state law.”

President of The Montana Shooting Sports Association, Gary Marbut, gives us the back story:

  • During the 2021 legislative session, the Board of Regents used the courts to block the campus carry provision from HB 102.
  • In the case, the Regents inaccurately claimed that the powers granted to them under the provisions of Article X of the Montana Constitution empowers them to restrict campus carry.
  • Overtly partisan Judge McMahon decreed: “Arguments seeking to redefine or enlarge the issues of this declaratory relief proceeding, arguing the breadth of federal or state firearm rights, or arguing the validity of Regents Policy 1006 will not be considered or tolerated by this Court.”

GOA and MSSA are unified on this constitutional referendum that will stop the Board of Regents’ end run around your constitutional right to campus carry.

House Bill 197 is scheduled for a committee hearing on January 20th at 8 AM in Room 137.

Patriots, please try to attend the hearing in person.

If you are unable to attend the hearing, please click the button to call the House Judiciary Committee and urge them to support HB 197.
