Oh, shoot! Federal judge calls NY gun laws ‘unconstitutional,’ allows them for now

New state gun laws took effect Thursday in places like Times Square — but they might not remain that way for long, with a federal judge blasting Albany Democrats for their “unconstitutional” response to a controversial ruling by the US Supreme Court in June. “While pursuing the laudable goal of public safety, and in an attempt to curb ever-increasing mass shootings, the New York State Legislature has generated an unconstitutional statute,” Chief United States District Judge Glenn Suddaby said in a decision released late Wednesday. While the judge rulef that the suit brought by the Guns Owners of America New York lacked standing — a decision it might appeal — the legal win for New York Democrats might prove short-lived amid multiple legal challenges to the new laws. Kathy Hochul, Governor of New York A spokesman for Gun Owners of America New York said the group is considering its options while other cases involving […]

Norden Bombsight Was Top Secret and Over-Hyped

The Norden M9 bombsight was top secret and possibly over-hyped but definitely an important part of the United States Army Air Force’s daylight precision bombing campaign of World War II. After World War I, military planners wanted to avoid any more trench warfare. Precision bombing was seen as a way to get at dug-in positions as well as attack manufacturing, power, and transportation infrastructure. Bombing during World War I was done with rudimentary bombsights that required luck and pilot skill to drop bombs on target. The United States was developing a bomber fleet that flew higher and faster than any bombers before, so a bombsight capable of putting bombs on target was a necessity. Bombs dropped from 20,000 feet had to be dropped 2.5 miles ahead of the target. The military turned to engineer Carl Norden who started developing a bombsight in 1921. Concerned about Norden’s temperament, military officials asked […]

End of Session WIN for the Second Amendment

“Had we not had boots on the ground, we never would have been able to take advantage of the unique opportunities presented to us to defeat these bills. It’s a good win. ” Sam Paredes, GOC Executive Director Getting a solid win feels dang good. After two months of Leftist hissy fits in response to the Supreme Court’s NYSRPA v. Bruen decision that declared subjective CCW restrictions as unconstitutional, the bill to obstruct that ruling died on the Assembly Floor in the final late-night hours of session. SB 918, which would essentially have made the state a CCW prohibited area, died a spectacular death, even though California’s Attorney General Rob Bonta was physically on the Floor of the Assembly twisting arms for an “aye” vote. There were a lot of angryand gnashing of teeth from the legislative leadership, but there were some serious hoots of victory from GOC […]

Muzzleloader Cleaning 101

Cleaning your firearms after use is always recommended, but it’s especially important when you are using black powder. Corrosive and hygroscopic, black powder fouling will pull moisture from the air and promote oxidation. If you neglect a black powder firearm for a while after use, you could end up with a rusty, pitted barrel and significantly impaired accuracy and/or a rusty lock that won’t perform. Given this, you want to clean black powder guns as soon as possible after use. There are many ways to undertake the task of muzzleloader cleaning, so you don’t have to stick to my recommendations in order to get good results. If you asked ten muzzleloader shooters how they clean their guns, you may well get ten different answers. However, because black powder is water soluble, most will use good old tap water to do most of the work. Keep your muzzleloader in pristine condition […]

Federal Judge Finds New York’s New Concealed Carry Law to Be Patently Unconstitutional, but Allows it to Take Effect

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 1, 2022 Washington, D.C. Late yesterday, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, Chief Judge Glenn T. Suddaby issued an opinion and order denying GOA’s motion for a preliary injunction against the State of New York’s poorly named “Concealed Carry Improvement Act.” Although going into detail about how just about every aspect of the Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA) is unconstitutional, the judge concluded that none of the plaintiffs had standing to challenge any aspect of the law. This bad news comes after Gun Owners of America (GOA) and its nonprofit legal arm, Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), filed suit to challenge the constitutionality of the legislation in July. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a GOA member from Schenectady County. Among other alarg provisions flouting recent Supreme Court precedent, this law, which is in effect as of September 1, requires concealed carry […]

GOA Working to Destroy the ATF Registry

The ATF’s “Ghost Gun” and Gun Registry Final Rule just went into effect. This tyrannical new rule not only restricts homemade firearms, but it also turns the ATF’s partial billion-record gun registry into a COMPLETE federal registry. While GOA will continue to fight this unconstitutional rule in the courts, we will also be fighting for its demise on every front. That’s why GOA needs YOUR help urging the House and Senate to pass legislation to destroy the ATF’s gun registry. H.R. 6945 is a bill that was introduced in the House to immediately STOP the ATF’s illegal, backdoor gun registry. We need your help getting Representatives to co-sponsor it. While there is currently no similar bill in the Senate, your letter today will light a fire under Senators’ feet to get them working on a companion bill to H.R. 6945 immediately. Please add your name to our pre-written letters to […]

FPC Statement Regarding Recent Mischaracterizations of and Misinformation About Our Values

Recently, some have deliberately mischaracterized recent comments on FPC’s social media—which were intended to argue how all humans, and certainly those in the United States, have constitutionally protected natural and procedural rights—to cast our organization in a negative light. To address the dishonest narratives and misrepresentations of our values, we seek to set the record straight here. FPC News Firearms Policy Coalition

The Welrod Assassin’s Pistol

The Welrod Assassin’s Pistol Home August 27, 2022 William Lawson Imagine you’re a World War II British SOE operative. After months of intensive training, you parachute into Nazi-occupied Denmark and link up with a Resistance group. Friendly aircraft occasionally drop goodies like weapons and explosives so you can create merry mayhem among the enemy. Resistance fighters are not as effective as legend would eventually claim, but aninterrupted rail line, disabled locomotive, or blown-up power station causes headaches and ties down troops who could otherwise be at the fighting front. A WWII British operative about to take out an enemy sentry. Probably. (americanrifleman.org) Sabotage missions are dangerous. The enemy knows valuable targets just as you do, so they post sentries and other defenses. Your latest supply drop included an odd-looking weapon to help deal with those sentries: the Welrod pistol. The Special Operations Executive (SOE) developed the Welrod for just this […]

GOA Protecting Gun Owners Against the President’s War on the Second Amendment

Biden Spooked by Ghost Guns Never d gas prices doubling since former President Donald Trump left office, or inflation higher than under any elected president since record-keeping began, or the one-year anniversary of President Biden’s botched surrender in Afghanistan, in which 13 American patriots died unnecessarily and which sacrificed the gains another 2,312 Americans died for as well. No, Mr. Biden wants you to be spooked by fictional “ghost guns.” On Wednesday, Mr. Biden’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ “Ghost Gun” and Gun Registry Final Rule went into effect. The rule cracks down on guns made in American homes, something we’ve been doing since before the Republic was founded. Mr. Biden’s White House says these “ghost guns” are “the weapon of choice for many violent crials.” What they don’t tell you is that “many” equals about 115 homicides per year out of a total of about 16,000. In […]

Federal Judge Strikes Down Texas’ Ban on Handgun Carry by Young Adult

Friday, August 26, 2022 FORT WORTH, TX Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced a victory in Andrews v. McCraw, its Second Amendment lawsuit that challenged a ban on handgun carry by young adults in the State of Texas. The judgment and injunction can be viewed at FPCLaw.org. “The issue is whether prohibiting law-abiding 18-to-20-year-olds from carrying a handgun in public for self-defense is consistent with this Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation,” wrote Judge Mark Pittman in his Opinion. “Based on the Second Amendment’s text, as informed by Founding-Era history and tradition, the Court concludes that the Second Amendment protects against this prohibition. Texas’s statutory scheme must therefore be enjoined to the extent that law-abiding 18-to-20-year-olds are prohibited from applying for a license to carry a handgun.” “Texas cannot point to a single Founding Era law that prohibited 18-to-20-year-olds from carrying a functional firearm for self-defense, because not only […]

KY: Hold McConnell Accountable for His Betrayal

Urge the GOP to Censure Mitch McConnell Urge your local GOP to pass a resolution to censure Senator Mitch McConnell for working with anti-gun Democrats to pass gun control. Dear friend, Gun owners have not forgotten the treacherous backstabbing from Senator Mitch McConnell when he happily joined with radical anti-gun Democrats to pass one of the most damaging gun control bills in decades. The misnamed “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” is a nasty gun control bill that includes a bribe pot for Red Flag gun confiscation laws, a backdoor for Universal Background Registration Checks, and delays/denials for young adults. As the top Republican in the Senate, McConnell could have worked to stop the bill either by adding pro-gun “poison pill” amendments to kill the bill, or at a imum, pressure other weak Republican Senators to vote against it. Instead, he not only greenlighted negotiations on the bill with Senate and anti-gunners, but he […]
