Time to Thank or Spank Your Senators

The Senate Votes to Uphold the Filibuster … For Now! After being bombarded with letters and phone calls from GOA activists like you, the Senate refused to cave to pressure from the White House to nuke the filibuster and allow for a federal takeover of U.S. elections. Just like with a child, it’s important to reinforce a politician’s good behavior or punish their bad behavior immediately. That’s why I’m asking you to add your name to our letter to either THANK or SPANK your Senators depending on how they voted. Please add your name to our letter to your two Senators to THANK or SPANK them for how they voted on nuking the filibuster. (NOTE: our system will automatically detere how your Senators voted upon entering your address.) ADD YOUR NAME If Biden and Kamala successfully get just ONE Democrat Senator to end the filibuster, this would open the door […]

KY: Take action to restore your rights!

Urge House to move on H.B. 122, H.B. 123, H.B. 124, H.B. 158 Dear friend, As Kentucky gun owners, we have seen our grassroots efforts make great strides in restoring Kentucky’s Second Amendment freedoms. The fight, however, is far from over and your activism is needed once more! Rep. Savannah Maddox (KY-61) has introduced four bills that would bolster our gun rights here in Kentucky in a big way. H.B. 122 would lower the Constitutional Carry age from 21 to 18. In the Bluegrass State, 18-year-old adults can open carry handguns without a permit. Full Constitutional carry is the next step to ensure all adults in Kentucky can effectively carry, open or concealed, for self-protection. H.B. 124 would seek to eliate so-called “gun-free” zones and give law-abiding Kentuckians a fighting chance. If tragic events have taught us anything, it is that bad guys always prefer gun-free zones for their evil […]

What Is a Bullpup Gun?

Bullpup guns look weird and futuristic compared to traditional Winchester repeaters or M1 Garands, but their concept has been around for more than 120 years. Bullpup battle rifles are shorter than a traditional rifle since the firing action and magazine is located behind the trigger, allowing the barrel to be moved back. Rifles, shotguns, and even a pistol have been put to the bullpup design. Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms and Artillery at the Royal Armouries in the United Kingdom and author of “Thorneycroft to SA80 British Bullpup Firearms 1901-2020,” said in an interview with Forgotten Weapons, the origin of the weapon’s name is likely American and came about by comparing the gun’s design to a bulldog puppy as a “squat, ugly, but aggressive and powerful” dog. A handful of bullpup guns will be on offer in the upcog Sporting and Collector Auction, Feb. 16-18 and Premier Auction, May 13-15. […]

NH: Post hearing report — good news!

Yesterday was a good day in Concord! Last week, I wrote and told you that five public hearings would take place on January 26. I’m writing today to give you an after action report. The Crial Justice and Public Safety Committee heard public testimony on HB 1636 which will extend Constitutional Carry to snowmobiles and ATVs. Pro-gun champion, Rep. John Burt, introduced the bill and forcefully argued about the people’s right to armed self-defense and the right to carry a gun anywhere they go — no matter what the mode of transportation is. The Committee voted HB 1636 “ought to pass.” The Committee voted three anti-gun bills “inexpedient to legislate”: * HB 1096 bans the open carry of firearms within 100 feet of a polling place. I reded the Committee that New Hampshire has a centuries long history of people going about their daily lives armed without any problems. […]

WV: The Keep, Bear, and Drive with Arms Act Advances!

HB 4048 The WV Keep, Bear, and Drive with Arms Act is Moving Forward Dear friend: Gun owners are making some incredible advancements in restoring your Second Amendment rights in West Virginia. For too long, complacency has let the powers that be dictate to us what the limits of our rights are. However, we are no longer silent, but with your help we can take back what is ours. HB 4048 is on the Move! HB 4048, the WV Keep, Bear, and Drive with Arms Act, is a bill that will allow you to travel in your vehicle with the defensive weapon of your choosing. These restrictions place an unnecessary burden on West Virginians who just want to feel comfortable defending themselves or their families with a familiar firearm platform. HB 4048 also […]

Please urge your two Senators to reject any anti-gun Supreme Court justice noated by Joe Biden! The 50-50 Senate is our only hope of defeating an anti-gun noee. We need to bombard the 50-50 Senate with letters urging them to VOTE NO on ANY anti-gun noee Biden asks the Senate to confirm. Even with his veto promise, Governor Wolf still needs to hear from you. I want to see thousands of messages hitting his email inbox to sign HB 979 into […]

Repeating Rifles of the Civil War

The American Civil War spanned a period when rifle innovation and transitional ammunition systems were quickly advancing. While rapid-fire muzzleloaders had existed as novelties for hundreds of years prior, mid-19th-century industrialization finally allowed the repeating rifle to be produced en mass (Lot 9) A documented Civil War production Henry lever action rifle. The Henry rifle, Spencer repeater, and Colt revolving rifle offered a new level of firepower during the Civil War, and several other innovative designs appeared at the tail end of the conflict. While each type of repeating rifle had plenty of obstacles to overcome, they weren’t always viewed as an obvious upgrade to the conventional single shot rifles of the era. The Spencer Rifle With more than 12,000 Spencer lever action rifles and upwards of 90,000 Spencer carbines purchased by the Union during the Civil War, Christopher Spencer’s seven-shot design was by far the most common repeater on […]

How Pennsylvania’s Legislature Passed Permitless Gun-Carry After Nearly a Decade of Trying

Permitless gun-carry came closer than ever to becog Pennsylvania law in 2021. It passed the Pennsylvania House and Senate and was a veto from outgoing Governor Tom Wolf (D.) away from established policy. While it ultimately fell short, the 2021 effort was a high-water mark for the proposal that has been floating around the statehouse for about a decade…. So, how did gun-rights activists get the policy all the way to the governor’s desk on the eve of an election year in a swing state?… GOA’s supporters in the statehouse argued [GOA state director Val] Finnell’s efforts were a bigger boon. Val Finell, GOA’s Pennsylvania State Director Senator Doug Mastriano (R.) said Gun Owners of America deserved credit for getting the [Constitutional Carry] bill through. “GOA under Val did a fantastic job putting together a unified front for the GOP and even peel off a few Democrats as well,” he […]

AL: Sheriffs Association Doubles Down on Opposition to Constitutional Carry

Time for Gun Owners to Double Our Efforts as Well Dear friend: Just a few weeks ago, GOA alerted you that some sheriffs are standing in the way of Alabama passing Constitutional Carry. Now, the Alabama Sheriffs Association (ASA) Director has doubled down in his opposition to Constitutional Carry, as well as exposing his very radical anti-gun views along the way! In fact, the ASA Director went on the record opposing gun ownership outside the home. Suffice it to say, he wants to fundamentally rewrite the Second Amendment. That’s why I need Second Amendment supporters like you to combat these anti-gun messages being sent to legislative offices in Montgomery. Please take action immediately to contact your state legislators to support Constitutional Carry. Sources are saying a vote could take place for Constitutional Carry in the cog weeks, so time is of the essence. With your activism, we can add Alabama […]

NH: Pre-emption still needs help, contact state reps!

Click here to urge State Reps. to support the amended HB 307, pre-emption. A few weeks ago, I wrote to tell you that the Senate Judiciary Committee had proposed an amendment to HB 307, the “Enhanced Firearms Preemption” bill. I wrote that: “I have reviewed the committee amendment with the prime sponsor, Rep. Norm Silber — as well as, with Michael Hammond, GOA’s Legislative Counsel. Both feel that the amendment does not change the intent or the effect of HB 307 — which is to stop local officials from enacting gun control. Gun owners are entitled to a clear and consistent set of state-wide laws.” The alert went on to ask gun owners to contact their state senators and urge them to adopt the proposed Committee Amendment to HB 307. The Senate heard your voices and on January 5, they voted HB 307 “ought to pass with an amendment.” The […]

PA: Pass HB 979 in Senate and Strengthen Preemption

“Strengthen Preemption” Bill Reported from Senate Judiciary Committee and Now Heads to Senate Floor for a Vote HB 979, Representative Matt Dowling’s bill to strengthen Pennsylvania’s firearms preemption law, was reported from the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday along partisan lines. Anti-gun Senator Maria Collett (D-12) tried to gut the bill with an amendment, but it was voted down. Now, the bill is on the Senate floor. Once it passes the Senate, it will move to Governor Wolf’s desk. HB 979 is a very important bill for Pennsylvania. Anti-gun cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh continue to pass local gun control ordinances in defiance of state law. It’s all part of a coordinated strategy to bankrupt law-abiding citizens who are victimized by these illegal ordinances using tax dollars and outside money provided by Michael Bloomberg and Everytown USA. You see, Everytown USA promised free legal help to any city anywhere that wants […]

SVT 40: Soviet Semi-Automatic Rifle

The semi-automatic Tokarev SVT-40 doesn’t get its due in the history of the weapons of the Eastern Front because of its disrupted production. A weapon on par with the M1 Garand, the SVT-40 was the gun the Soviets wanted but it wasn’t what they needed when the Germans invaded. The Soviets, like many countries during the inter-war period, worked to develop a semi-automatic rifle to serve as a battle rifle for the Red Army, replacing the reliable but long-in-the-tooth Mosin-Nagant rifle. By 1938 they had one, the Tokarev SVT-38. The magazine-fed rifle weighed in at about 9 lbs. unloaded and was chambered for 7.6x54R ammunition. Russian standoff In 1939, German forces invaded Poland from the west. A few weeks later, the Red Army invaded Poland from the east. World War II had begun, and the Germans and Russians stood by their uneasy non-aggression treaty. The SVT-38 was in production but […]

Does “AR” Stand for “Assault Rifle”?

No. Feel free to move on to the next article if you want, because there’s your answer in a nutshell; contrary to what some folks on the internet are saying, the “AR” in “AR-15” does not stand for “Assault Rifle”. But if you want more details, they can be found below. During the last month or so of 2021, I started seeing a recurring statement popping up on some social media sites. Specifically, a repeated statement that the “AR” in “AR-15” stands for “Assault Rifle”. Now, I believe in the Second Amendment, and I also believe that A) the right to keep and bear arms is not a legal obligation to keep and bear arms, and that if you, ing this, decide the proper number of firearms in your home or in your life is zero, then that’s your call, and B) that using civil means to try and address […]
